These builds are not always perfect for general PvE, but can be played successfully with skill. The term "Funbuild" means that a character is able to be played a specific way that is more uncommon, but usually in an interesting manner. In the end, a player who starts understanding how D2 game mechanics work will be able to read a guide and tweak it for his own use, having a rough but helping guideline from the beginning of a character's development. Before the Cure runeword was around, I used Plague in crystal sword as my weapon swap. I use a +9 ES Memory staff in place of CtA as I have a 2nd account with a Booster Barb that has level 53 BO. I just need the Meditation and Cleansing auras. No monsters stay alive long enough to really need an expensive merc armor. I had a CoH on my merc, but decided to repurpose it on a different char. You're right about Baal farming as well, waiting for that blood mana curse to disappear definitely slows runs down a bit. You're right though, the resistances don't really matter at all other than poison. I went with these boots for the PR/PLR and the extra light res helps a bit if I accidentally teleport into a dense pack of Souls. I did originally have Treks, and have used caster boots as well.
